Moroccan inspired chest of drawers #chalkpaint #stenciled

I bought this chest of drawers about six months and wanted to paint it in Napoleon Blue but after I painted one drawer, the colour didn’t seem to do the piece justice.  We’ve just come back from a trip to Morocco and I love Islamic architecture and design so I decided to print out a stencil on my Silhouette Cameo.

It’s painted with a mix of Greek Blue & English Yellow (colour is more green in natural light) and then stenciled with gold acrylic. I started one drawer with a spray paint for the stencil but it would not give me a seamless join, so I reverted back to the trusted brush method. I was very disappointed with Greek Blue when I bought it, so I’m pleased I have now found a use for it!

Stenciling with Annie Sloan paint – top tip!

I’ve managed to work out how to prevent bleed through when stenciling – add some wax to your paint and mix into a paste (akin to the consistency of toothpaste) and then dab onto the stencil, using as many coats as required (allowing to dry in-between coats).  This tray was painted with Graphite, waxed and lacquered and then I applied with stencil with English Yellow mixed in with wax. My trays are available to purchase.

Revamped African Basket with Annie Sloan Paint

Ever since I went on an Annie Sloan chalk paint course run by Dulwich Trader in London, nothing has been safe from being painted, decoupaged, gilded or waxed!  This is my latest project:  painted with English Yellow and Violet Grey.  I will seal it with clear wax once the paint has fully dried.
